The Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote in Contrast Epi Leather

Louis Vuitton

FINALLY, THIS CLASSIC BAG HAS SPOKEN TO ME

I have a small confession to make: I’ve never really gotten the Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote. Sure, I can recognize that it’s both a beloved classic bag and a great, functional option for those who need to carry a lot, but it’s never been a bag that sparked much personal interest in me. I’m not a tote bag person in general, so my affections have always run more toward Vuitton’s single-strap shoulder bags and crossbodies. All it took was some pink detailing, though, and I’m all aboard the Neverfull bandwagon.

Part of the Neverfull’s appeal is that its simplicity makes it a perfect canvas for variation, embellishment and seasonal adornment without sacrificing functionality. It’s been emblazoned with everything from Yayoi Kusama’s signature dots to Jeff Koons’s, well…whatever it was he did. The wide open space of a Neverfull side panel holds endless possibility.

With this version, though, the devil is in the details (and mostly inside the bag itself). Louis Vuitton’s hardy Epi leather is usually a single-tone material, but lately, Vuitton has been releasing some of its Epi bags with contrasting interiors and edge paint. The contrasting interior is something I’ve loved since Mansur Gavriel made it its signature when the brand debuted in 2013, and since then, nearly every brand has imitated the look. In this instance, though, LV takes it one step further my extending the neon pink interior to the bag’s edges, which is what I love the best. The move sharpens the lines of the bag’s iconic structure and makes the whole thing feel new all over again. If I were in the market for a tote, this version of the Neverfull would be at the top of my list.

Buy through Louis Vuitton for $2,050. This version is the MM; if you want something similar but with a more subdued color combination, the bag is also available in deep purple with pale pink accents.

Louis Vuitton x Fragment Cabas Light Collection

Louis Vuitton

IMAGES: LOUIS VUITTON

Why Louis Vuitton didn’t launch them earlier still escapes me, but the Cabas Light bags, from the recently launched limited edition Louis Vuitton x Fragment collection, are officially my new favourite bags from the French luxury house. Created in collaboration with Fragment’s Hiroshi Fujiwara, it’s many things most boys will appreciate, from its massive size (50 cm by 50 cm by 16 cm) to the fact that it is extremely lightweight.

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

Topped with a pair of handles long enough to drape the tote comfortably over the shoulder, open the drawstring closure and reach into its textile-lined interior for the removable canvas pouch that comes with the bag. Available in Monogram Canvas (sorry guys, this one is a Japan-only exclusive), Monogram Eclipse (the one I want) and finally one more in a black textile fabric, the icing on this cult favourite cake has got to be those 4 magic words on the front of the bag, namely Louis Vuitton Fragment Tokyo.

Priced at SGD2860, both the ones in Monogram Eclipse and the black fabric textile are currently OOS, but I’ve also been told that daily replenishments are still happening at the #LVxFragment pop-up at Surrender’s 268 Orchard Road flagship that will end on 7 May 2017. Yes folks, use this long weekend and head on down because you’ll never know if you’ll get lucky and finally get the limited edition piece of your dreams.

Louis Vuitton S/S17 Gifting Collection

Louis Vuitton

IMAGES: LOUIS VUITTON

In case you missed the first post, might I again present Louis Vuitton’s new Gifting collection, which from January 2017 will be made available in our local stores as and when new shipments arrive into Singapore. And as the name suggests, this is also a selection of beautiful curated gifts for your home or personal use, ranging from desktop stationery like desk pads and notebooks to more decorative pieces like photo frames, ceramic valet dishes (or use them as ashtrays if it so pleases you) and even a yo-yo. Yes, a yo-yo.

And while I would personally wish for a more extensive line-up, this very first gift and home collection from Louis Vuitton isn’t half bad at all, with enough options for loved ones or yourself who are fans of the French luxury house. From a pair of pencils that will retail for SGD260 to pen/pencil holders that come priced at SGD790 apiece, I’m actually eyeing the mouse pad for myself, even if it sets me back by SGD540.

Besides mouse pads, the desk pads (with the iconic Monogram Canvas on one side) are also drool-worthy, even if they cost SGD1590 a pop. For those with more modest budgets, the note books are a good idea, each swathed in a different leather from Epi to Taiga and starting from justSGD180 for the ones in PM size.

The photo frames are lovely too, with the acrylic one priced at SGD875. Also available in leather-bound versions, those retail for SGD910 and SGD990 respectively for the PM and MM sizes. Valet dishes start from SGD550, and if you’re wondering what the yo-yo looks like, here you go.

IMAGES: LOUIS VUITTON

Interested? Known as the Roy, this one in Rose will set you back by just SGD465. And if anyone here is feeling generous, my birthday is next month and I really want the acrylic photo frame. Thanks.

Louis Vuitton Damier Nemeth Rope Collection

Louis Vuitton

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

You’ve already seen the Monogram World Tour collection, Louis Vuitton’s dedicated Christmas collection created specially for the ladies (and boys who love their Monogram Canvas). Now feast your eyes on the men’s equivalent, which is basically a mash-up between something old and something new.

The old (or in this case, classic is the Damier Graphite coated-canvas), given new life with something new, a reanimation of a previous collaboration with artist Christopher Nemeth. Featuring his distinct rope print, the Damier Nemeth Rope collection, as it is called, comes in 2 colour combinations, a blue rope print on Damier Graphite, as well as a red rope print on other pieces.

Besides bags in at least 4 different styles (there are 2 backpacks, a messenger and a Keepall all adorned with the rope print), there’s also a huge variety of SLGs, which in my opinion are always welcome stocking stuffers.

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

From the Damier Graphite Rope Bleu Ambler (a generously-proportioned bumbag, if you must know) that retails for SGD2200 to the PF Slender(LV’s standard 8 card billfold wallet, SGD745) and Zippy Coin Purse(SGD610), you’ll be hard-pressed to find a style not to your liking, especially with the variety of styles available.

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

Then there are these, from the classic Zippy Organiser Wallet (SGD1440) to the PF Brazza in Brazza Damier Graphite Rope Rouge (a long wallet with a single zip compartment on the inside), one of the styles I swear by that retails for just SGD1030. And in case you’re in the market for a new zip portfolio, the Pochette Jour GM (shown at the top of this post, SGD1010) is a good option, the 34 cm by 25 cm case big enough for say, a MacBook Air.Or an iPad, documents and then some, but you know what I mean. But if you want something from LV but this is just not your thing, hit this link and check out the other new crowd favourite from the French luxury house this season, Monogram Eclipse.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Eclipse Bag

Louis Vuitton

IMAGE: JSK FOR LOUIS VUITTON
(ME MESSENGER VOYAGER, SGD3000)

If there’s one thing Louis Vuitton does best (and this has been something I’ve constantly repeated over the years), when it comes to choices as far as bag styles are concerned, there are always aplenty. It was always the case for women’s bags, and with the new Monogram Eclipse collection, it is the same (if not better) for the boys as well.

So what can you expect from this special collection, which takes Louis Vuitton’s traditional Monogram Canvas and turns it Black and Grey for an update that not only feels really modern, it’s in a colour combination that even a man’s man will find hard to resist and not shy away from. And then there are the various bag styles (6 to be exact) that range from a backpack to 2 styles of duffles, along with a briefcase, as well as messengers in 2 different designs. In other words, there is something for everyone, and if you want, you could even get two (or more) just to make it a matching set.

IMAGE: JSK FOR LOUIS VUITTON
(ME KEEPALL55 BANDOULIERE, SGD2400)

First up, we’ve got the duffles, one the classic Monogram Eclipse Keepall55 Bandouliere, and the other, a new take on the Keepall, the Monogram Eclipse Keepall Voyager. While one’s an icon in its own right, the other is a tad smaller with a full leather base, along with relaxed canvas top handles as well as that all-important shoulder sling no respecting duffle can do without. Priced at SGD2400 and SGD4250 respectively for the Keepall55 Bandouliere and the Keepall Voyager, these are the bags you use for short jaunts around the region, weekend staycations and even as a gym bag.

IMAGE: JSK FOR LOUIS VUITTON
(ME BACKPACK EXPLORER, SGD3800)

Next we’ve got the backpack, which at first glance doesn’t really look like a backpack at all. Known simply as the Monogram Eclipse Backpack Explorer(SGD3800), it’s actually your typical backpack but without the usual front flap. Yup, no flap but that’s instead replaced with 2 short top handles, which actually stretches its functionality IMHO. Carry it on your back via its regular handles, or hand-held via its top handles, the choice is yours really.

Everyone’s lazy bag, also known as the messenger, is next, and with Louis Vuitton’s Monogram Eclipse collection, there are 2 distinct styles that come in a range of sizes. For starters, we’ve got the Monogram Eclipse Messenger Voyager that’s shaped like an inverted trapezoid (also known as the large front flap) that clips down to the sides of the bag. Finished with a top handle and your shoulder sling, the SGD3000 bag for the one in PM size is also more casual. Which brings us to the more formal of the duo, the Monogram Eclipse Messenger Explorer. Definitely squarish with a formal attitude to boot, it’s also more suited for those older amongst us, if you know what I mean. Priced at SGD2560 for the MM size, both can be worn across the shoulder with easy access to their contents.

(ME BRIEFCASE EXPLORER, SGD2860)

Last, but by no means least, is the Monogram Eclipse Briefcase Explorer, your definitive work bag best suited for those who work in environments that request that you be smart on a daily basis. Measuring some 39 cm across by 30 cm in height, it’s a handsome bag, with top zip closures on a part-leather, part-Monogram Eclipse body. Lined with a tactile fabric and made available with a shoulder sling that’s also removable, this SGD2860briefcase, along with the 5 others already mentioned in this post, is now available at a Louis Vuitton near you.

In other words, Louis Vuitton has already done all the work for you and given you options galore; you just need to decide which is the best option for you. And if you still can’t decide, drop a comment here and I’ll see what I can do for you. Or follow this link and see the full collection online via LV.
